Racine- James Bernard Haumersen, 75, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday, July 23, 2006. A lifetime resident, Jim was born in Racine on October 23, 1930 to the late Milton F. and Grace M. (nee: Schultz) Haumersen. He faithfully served our Country with the US Air Force in London during the Korean War. It was while serving in London when he met the love of his life, Janet “Jan” H. Bristow. They were united in marriage on October 25, 1952 in London, England. During his career, Jim formerly owned and operated Haumersen’s Prime Steakhouse, sold insurance for 20 years, and was President of J.H. Haumersen & Sons Brick and Building Material until his retirement in 1992. Jim was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, past-president of the Lions’ Club, and was so very active with St. Catherine’s Athletic Association, serving as President for over 13 years. Jim was awarded St. Catherine’s “Man of the Year” in 1983 and was inducted into the St. Catherine’s Hall of Fame in 2000. Among his interests, Jim enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid golfer, and was an accomplished woodworker / carpenter. Above all, Jim loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Jan; their children, Kimberly A. (Carl) Simon of Racine; Mark J. (Peggy) Haumersen of Minneapolis, MN; Laurie B. (Brian) Dunk of Mosinee; and Michael J. (Mia) Haumersen of Racine; beloved “Bumpa” of Becky and Nicholas Simon, Elle and Charlie Haumersen, Ryan and Emily Dunk, and Lauren and Mitchell Haumersen; brother, John P. (Elsie) Haumersen; sister, Judith A. (Arthur) Grebetz; sister-in-law, Mary (Frank) Roberts; and dear aunt, Janet (the late Henry) Haumersen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his in-laws, Henry and Enid Bristow; and special aunt, Irene Haumersen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 11:00 am in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Ave., with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Wednesday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. In memory of Jim, memorials to St. Catherine’s Athletic Assn. have been suggested.
