
Racine – Sally Ann Steger, 77, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Saturday, January 6, 2007. She was born in Racine on November 1, 1929, daughter of the late Herbert and Lillian (nee: Nelson) Tharinger. She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. On January 11, 1953 she was united in marriage to Raymond H. Steger. Sally retired from Western Publishing in 1974. Later in her career she also worked at Open Pantry (Corp. office) and H&R Block. She took pleasure in doing taxes for her family and friends. Sally loved to be with her family, especially during the special times spent at their cabin on Pine Lake. She enjoyed shopping, and was generous to a fault. Sally also enjoyed having lunch with her “Birthday Club”, playing cards with friends, and many successful trips to the casino. She is survived by her husband of nearly 54 years, Ray “Corky” Steger; her children, Jim (Kathy) Reynolds, Carol (Dick) Deverney, Joni (Clarence) Mayfield, Jacque (Mahommad) Majeed, Steve (Lyn) Steger, and Debbie LaMere; grandchildren, Michelle, and Danny Mayfield, Danielle, and Jason Kechter, Wayne Sura, Jr., Taylor Steger, and Danny LaMere; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Betty) Tharinger in Arizona; sister-in-law, Alice Tharinger in Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded by her brother, Charles Tharinger, and her very dear aunt, Irene Hill. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2007 with Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuelson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is in the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m., and Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the beginning of the service. The Steger family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Ridgewood Care Center, for the skilled and compassion manner in which they cared for Sally and her family.
