Daniel J. Gavin

Apr 20, 1930 – May 19, 2007

STURTEVANT – Daniel J. Gavin, 77, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 19, 2007 following a short battle with common bile duct cancer. He was born in Lansing, IA on April 20, 1930 the son of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth M. (nee: Manning) Gavin. On August 16, 1955, he married the former Luann Hess at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Mr. Gavin served with the US Army Artillery APO-24 in Korea from November of 1955 until February of 1957. After he was injured he became the mail clerk for his unit. Mr. Gavin had been employed by Yule Truck Lines for over 11 years and retired from Roadway Express in 1993 after 23 years of service. He enjoyed helping to bring in crops on the family farm, doing odd jobs for the neighbors and spending time with bumpa’s boy. Mr. Gavin was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW. He survived by his wife, of nearly 52 years, Luann; their children, Richard (Lori) Gavin of Racine, Gerald (Shelly) of Kaukauna, Maureen (Kenyon) Tevrucht of Racine, Ann Gavin of Mt. Horeb, David (Desireé) Gavin, Donald (Sheri) Gavin all of Sturtevant; grandchildren, Jackie Harrell, Kimberly (Wally) Kissh, Katie Tevrucht, Daniel Gavin, Mary Gavin, Michael Tevrucht, Margaret Gavin, Theresa Gavin and Lucas Gavin; 6 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Feuerhelm of Lansing, IA, and Marguerite (Grover) Massey of Kenosha; sisters-in-law, Alyce Gavin and Georgianna Gavin of Lansing, IA. His nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends further survive him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, Clarence, and Paul Gavin and by his sisters, Leona Ferko, Elizabeth Gavin, Regina Folsom, and Sr. Shelia Gavin. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126-95th St. Sturtevant, at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 for the Funeral Mass with Rev. Robert Konkol, OFM officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The rosary will be recited in the church on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Seasons Hospice; special friends Eric and Judy Sewell, for their care and support; Fr. Jim and Fr. Bob, for their spiritual support; and especially, his daughter Ann Gavin, for her vigilant and tender care of her father.
