Kenosha – Amy Ann (nee: Petersen) Tenuta, 31, tragically passed away in Milwaukee at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital on Sunday, September 16, 2007 after suffering a sudden ruptured cerebral aneurysm on Saturday afternoon. Amy was born in Racine on February 4, 1976. She graduated from William Horlick High School in 1994. While at Horlick, Amy was an accomplished member of the swim team, setting several records and winning a State Championship title as a diver. She was awarded a diving scholarship to N. Michigan University. However, Amy graduated from Carthage College with an English degree in 2001. Eight years ago, Amy met the love of her life, Robert Anthony Tenuta. They were married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on June 1, 2002. Shortly after, Rob and Amy had their marriage blessed by Rev. William Hayward of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Amy’s life was completely devoted to her family. She was a doting wife and mother who always placed her family’s needs as priority one. Amy always cherished the times spent with her beloved grandmother, Catherine Wood. Although Amy was a proud full-time mother, she enjoyed working part-time as a substitute teacher with Kenosha Unified. She also received pleasure in working part-time at BabyGap, where she loved shopping for her own children. Surviving are her loving husband, Rob; their children, Gabriel (age 6), Olivia (age 4) and Simona (age 2); grandmother, Catherine Wood; father, Todd Petersen; twin brothers, Dan (Caitlin) and Chris Petersen; Rob’s parents, Fedele and Rita Tenuta; sisters-in-law, Rose, Carmen and Claudia Tenuta; special aunt and uncle, Kathy Petersen and Bob (Marge) Wood; nephews and nieces; Jake and Max Piehl, Alexander and Grace Scalzo and Ethan Petersen; step mother, Sandy (Sondergaard) Petersen and step sisters Michelle (Sondergaard) Pilling and Cristie Sondergaard; and by many other important aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. Amy was preceded in death by her dear mother, Sue Ann Wood; maternal grandfather, Earl Wood; paternal grandparents, George and Helen Petersen and uncle, James Wood. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 2224 – 30th Avenue, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007 at 10:30 am for the Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. William Hayward, MIC officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden Crypts of Calvary Cemetery in Racine. Visitation will be in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and in the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 am. In memory of Amy, memorials to the Amy Tenuta Memorial Fund (c/o: AM Community Credit Union – 6715 Green Bay Rd. Kenosha) for the benefit of her precious children. Rob sincerely thanks all of the first responders, St. Catherine’s Medical Center, Froedtert Hospital and Flight-For-Life for their heroic efforts in trying to save Amy’s life.

I am a teacher at Racine Horlick High School. I had Amy as a student in my homeroom for four years. I saw her grow from a young girl to a beautiful young lady. Later on, she came and asked me if she could observe my classes since she was studying to be a teacher. How nice it was to see her again. I remember her confiding in me some info regarding her personal life with her family. I would like to send my condolences to the family. She knew I lost my wife and daughter in 87. She was a great lady.
