Racine- Henry Joe Vasy, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 12, 2008. A lifetime resident, Henry was born in Racine on May 14, 1922 to the late John and Julia (nee: Vojtko) Vasy. He retired as regional stations superintendent in 1982. Henry proudly served our Country with the United States Army in WWII mainly in the Philippines and Korea. Henry was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was a moderator of Deacons, participated in Bible Studies, and was instrumental in establishing a Stephen Ministry at Covenant. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada as well as perch fishing in Lake Michigan, traveling, and gardening as he was born with a green thumb. Henry also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his sister, Margaret Vasy of Racine; brothers, Louis (Judith) Vasy of Racine and Arthur (Shirley) Vasy of Dumfries, VA; and sisters-in-law, Adeline Vasy and Marjorie Vasy, both of Racine. Further surviving are many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, John (Ella), Steve and Julius Vasy; niece, Nancy Vasy- DalBesio; and nephew, Robert Vasy. In accordance with Henry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be celebrated in Covenant Presbyterian Church, 40 Ohio Street, on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Melanie Hammond Clark. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Private interment, with military honors, will take place in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Covenant Presbyterian Church or to All Saints Cardiovascular Institute (c/o: Dr. Howard Short) has been suggested. A special note of thanks to Henry’s sister, Margaret, for the intense care and devotion that was so warmly extended in his time of need. God bless you Margaret! Special thanks to Dr. Short and his staff, Karen Murillo and Sharon. Also to Chris Nasdowski, Aubrey, and the staff of Home Health and Hospice who cared for Henry at his home during his illness.
