Kenosha – Joan Marlene Bednar, 76, formerly of Racine, passed away at Brookside Care Center on Thursday, September 04, 2008. She was born in Burlington on September 10, 1931, daughter of the late Lawrence and Mollie (nee: Isferding) Downie. Joan graduated from Horlick High School, and was a Racine resident for most of her life. On February 16, 1952 she was united in marriage to Frank G. Bednar.
Joan was a loving wife and mother and took great pride in caring for her family with her cooking, baking, decorating and maintaining their home. She enjoyed shopping for antiques with her sister and sisters-in-law, always looking for that perfect piece that would complete the look of a room. Joan was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Bednar of Burlington, Gary (Margaret) Bednar, and Ron Bednar all of Racine; grandchildren, Richelle (Phil) Anderson, and Molly Bednar both of Racine, Lindsey, and Bryan Olsen both of Burlington; sister Joy (Ken Hawes) Milkie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joseph (Lucille) Hrpcek, Helen Bednar, Lorraine (Phil) Stachow, Roger (Pat) Bednar, and Richard (Jean) Bednar; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; sister, Lois Hrpcek; brother, Richard Downie; daughter-in-law, Karen Bednar; and brother-in-law, Norman Bednar.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor John Miesel officiating. Visitation will begin in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Interment at West Lawn Memorial Park will follow the service.
The last few years were difficult for Joan and her family in so many ways. We thank the staff at Brookside Care Center, and Hospice Alliance for their care, compassion, and effort in easing Joan’s transition from this life to her everlasting life with the Lord Jesus.
