
Walter “Walt” Gibson, 77, passed away in the Hospice House, Pleasant Prairie, on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Walt was born in Bailey’s Harbor, WI on September 11, 1932, the son of the late Walter and Genevieve (nee: Jusis) Gibson. Walt was a 1950 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1952 and 1956, with 2 years in Germany as a Flight Load Master. On November 28, 1970, in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN, he was united in marriage to the former Carolyn A. Meyer. Walt had been employed by State Farm Insurance as a claim adjuster for over 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, the West Racine Kiwanis Club, the L& L Curling Club of Racine, and the Kenosha-Racine Adjusters Association. Walt was an avid Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers fan. He enjoyed going to musical theater productions with his wife, Carolyn, and traveling the world with his wife and son. They traveled to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Lithuania, and most of Europe. He enjoyed Caribbean cruises, reading many area newspapers, dining out, and going to their retreat in Door County. Walt is survived by his wife, Carolyn; their son Todd, of Chicago; sister, Kathleen Gilliver, of Kenosha; brother, Paul (Mary) Gibson, of Randolph, WI; mother-in-law, Mabel Meyer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine Meyer and Mark Frankowski of Racine. His nieces, nephew, and friends further survive him. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his son, Christopher; father-in-law, Chester Meyer; and brother-in-law, Roger Gilliver. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 11th, at 11:00 a.m., in Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave., with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams and Rev. Denise Mbise officiating. Visitation will in the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and in the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will be in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the West Racine Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund or the Milwaukee Public Museum. Carolyn and Todd would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Robert Brown and all the specialists, both doctors and nurses, at Aurora-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.
