
Racine– Gregg D. Mahnke, 78, passed away peacefully at Ridgewood Care Center on Monday, November 8, 2010.
A lifetime resident, Gregg was born in Racine on August 1, 1932 to the late Elmer F. and Doris E. (nee: Gertenbach) Mahnke. He graduated from Washington Park High School in 1950. Gregg honorably served our Country with the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Coral Sea. He retired from Bosch Manufacturing, formerly Racine Hydraulics, in 1993.
Gregg was a lifetime member of Epiphany Lutheran Church. Born with a beautiful tenor voice, he shared his gift by singing in the church choir and Great Lakes Naval choir as well as performing solos at many weddings. Gregg was a talented fast-pitch softball player and excelled at bowling and golf. He loved being in the presence of his entire family and was extremely proud of all of them.
Surviving are his sister, Gail (Stanley) Fleming of Ellicott City, MD; brother-in-law, William Thoemke of Racine; nieces, Laureen (Robert) Plum, Joyce (Larry) Maresh, Barbara (Harry) Hanson and Marcia (Jeffry) Demet; nephews, Matthew (Christina) Fleming and Adam Fleming; great-nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents, Gregg was preceded in death by beloved sister, Sally Thoemke.
Funeral services will be held in Epiphany Lutheran Church, 2921 Olive Street, on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Michael Zarling officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 17th, from 4-7 pm and in the church on Thursday from 11 am – 12 noon. In memory of Gregg, memorials to Epiphany Lutheran Church have been suggested.
