Mary L. Merlau

Union Grove – Mary L. Merlau, 89, died at Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. She was born in Racine on January 22, 1922, daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (nee: Seitz) Noe. On August 5, 1950 she was married to Maurice R. Merlau in Holy Name Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2010.

Mary received her BS in Public Health from the University of Michigan, and then served as a 2ndLt. in the Army Nursing Corps during WWII. She continued her nursing career at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, and then spent many years at North View Home in Waukesha. Mary liked to crochet, reading mystery novels, and traveling. She was formerly a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, and was a current member of St Robert Bellarmine Parish in Union Grove.

She is survived by her children, Anne (Arvis Stuart) Bradley of Waukesha, Richard (Karen) Merlau of Elkhart Lake, Patricia (Robert) Godfrey of Ottawa, David (Mary) Merlau of Friendswood, TX, and William Merlau of Waukesha; grandchildren, John (Gloria) Bradley and Steven (Jennifer) Bradley both of Waukesha, Tammy (Chris) Worden of Dousman, Mary (Douglas) Dickson of Elmendorf AFB, AK, Katie (Aaron) Kletzke of Ottawa, Christina Tatreau of Waukesha, Sarah, Paul and Ruth Merlau of Friendswood, TX; great grandchildren, Amber, John, Sean, Brooke, and William Bradley, Samantha Lewis, Andrew and Connor Worden, Joshua, Hannah, Mathew, and Marina Dickson, and Asher and Levi Tatreau; her sister, Ruth Krumberger of Racine; sisters-in-law, Roberta Noe of Racine, and Marion Noe in Texas; brothers-in-law, Donald Merlau and Charles Merlau both of Hilton, NY; and Richard (Joanne) Merlau of Rochester, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Raymond (Louise) Noe, Robert Noe, Richard Noe, Millie (Shorty) Parson, and Margaret (Robert) Bodi; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry Krumberger, Robert Merlau, and Barbara Merlau.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St Robert Bellarmine Parish, 3220 S. Colony Avenue, Union Grove, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011. All are invited to gather in the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private committal service will be held at Forest Home cemetery in Milwaukee.

Many thanks to the staff at the Union Grove Veterans Home for making Mom and Dad’s last years so wonderful.
