Florence Beauchamp

Jun 11, 1920 – Jan 23, 2009

Racine – Florence J. Beauchamp, 88, passed away following a long illness at the Becker-Shoop Center on Friday, January 23, 2009. She was born in Racine on June 11, 1920 to the late Roy and Jeanette (nee: Larson) Bushell, Sr. She was a 1937 graduate of Horlick high school. Florence was united in marriage on August 6, 1943 to Henry J. Beauchamp at Fort Leonard, Missouri, where Henry was stationed at the time. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1960. Florence was a long-time and active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church. She was in the very first Holy Communion Class at St. Edward’s, and attended daily mass for most of her life. She was a member of the choir for many years, and also with the bereavement choir. She was quite an athlete in her early 20’s, and was a member of the Sacred Heart volleyball team that won the 1940 Catholic Youth Organization State Tournament. Florence enjoyed a long career that included working with several companies in Chicago; nearly a decade with American Motors; and finally retirement from Walker Manufacturing on March 1, 1980. After the loss of her husband, she raised her teenage children and stepchildren. She was always there for them, whether it was chaperoning a school field trip, being Brownie Troop Leader and Den Mother, or just helping them with their schoolwork. Florence loved anything to do with music, and especially enjoyed playing the piano. She was honored to sing at her stepdaughter’s wedding. Florence also liked to go bowling, and taking care of her own yard. She had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed. Surviving are her children, Donna Beauchamp of Dayton, Ohio, Kenneth (Vicky) Beauchamp of Racine, and David (Lany) Beauchamp of Ocala, Florida; step-son, Robert (Yoko) Beauchamp; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Beauchamp both of Milwaukee; son-in-law, Frank Herrera of California; sisters-in-law, Audrey Bushell of Butler, Wisconsin, and Della Gordon of Niagara, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Charles Beauchamp of Royal Oak, Michigan; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as her great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was also preceded by her sisters, Doris, Marjorie, and Helen Bushell; her brothers, Robert Bushell, and Roy Bushell, Jr.; her step children, William Beauchamp and Blanche Herrera, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Florence LaFave, Loretta Beauchamp, Exian Petras, Blanche Micheau, Isabelle DiBiase; Alice Fumo; Marie Chud; Anna Mae Anderson; Beverly Washburn, Gloria Weber, and Earnest, William, Francis, Raymond, Leslie and Joann Beauchamp. The funeral mass for Florence J. Beauchamp will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church (15th and Grove Avenue) with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Visitation will begin at church at 4:30 p.m. Private burial will take place on Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery.

Our wonderful Aunt Florence! We were so blessed to be part of her family. All my memories of Aunt Florence are happy ones – she cared so much about all of us. We laughed and made wonderful memories every time we visited or spent time with her. As children she showed us so many ways to have fun together – from the roller rink to the outdoor theater – time with Donna and Ken and David and Aunt Florence was the best.

Your mother’s journey on Earth has ended; she achieved many things as well as served and loved many. I always enjoyed your mother’s visits to our home along with your dad’s generosity to us when we were in need. God give you the wisdom that she has met her destiny even though it meant she had to leave you.

    Old Friend David and Family:

Those we hold most dear never truly leave us……..THEY LIVE ON……in the kindnesses they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives.

May beautiful memories give the family strength in these difficult hours.

Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all of the faithfully departed,
through the mercy of God rest in peace.

    Amen

I wish to send you and your family condolences on the death of your Mom. I’m a very old friend, Donna, one you knew from JI Case when we were both secretaries. I remember meeting your Mom and my memories of a truly nice person. I came to visit you in Washington DC in l967 and lost track of you since then.
