
James Sorensen Jr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was born in Racine on April 3, 1929 the son of Danish immigrants, James and Sorene (nee: Bendsten) Sorensen Sr. James graduated from Washington Park High School in 1947. He attended Carthage College in Illinois and the Kansas City Conservatory of Music. James was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the church counsel and was a member of the choir. Jim spent many years performing both dance and symphonic music in and around Racine and across the country. He had been employed by Young Radiator and retired in 1991. He is survived by his wife, of 49 years, Kathy (nee: Shimkus), their daughter Edith Kay (Donald) Floro, their children, Alyssa Marie and Annabella Josephine all of Wakefield, KS; a son John (Karen) Sorensen and their children, Erin Lindquist, Kyle Lindquist and Hannah Lee Sorensen all of Kenosha; sisters, Ellen Hinze and Anne Marie Draper both of Racine. Jim was preceded in death by a son James Sorensen III in 1961. A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held in Grace Lutheran Church, 2006-60th St. Kenosha, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and therapists at Kenosha Memorial Hospital for making Jim comfortable in his last days.
