Mr. Charlie Diggens, 82, died unexpectedly at WFH-All Saints on Friday, March 25, 2011.
He was born in Greensboro, AL on April 20, 1928 to Andrew and Elizabeth (nee: Long) Diggins. He moved to Racine 70 years ago. He was married to the former Flora Walker. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2010, after 65 years of marriage.
Mr. Diggens worked for various companies such as Belle City Malleable but retired as a bus driver from Belle Urban System. He was a loving man who enjoyed being in the presence of his family and friends. Mr. Diggens spent his retirement years as a part time bus driver for St. Paul and Greater St. Luke’s Baptist Churches. He also enjoyed his membership with the Masons, playing pool at the Martin Luther King Center and spending time at the dog track.
His survivors include his children, Bertha Turner of Racine, David (Lois) Johnson of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Kindal Turner, Damian (Tara) Turner of Racine, Junior, Butch, Pam, Toni and Eric Johnson all of Texas; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Mickens of Racine and many nieces, nephews, dear relatives and friends. In addition to his loving wife, Flora, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church (1120 Grand Ave.) on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of his life and Homegoing with Bishop L.L. Kirby officiating. His interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation in the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m.
