Racine– Marilyn Rose (nee: Hill) Houdek, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
A lifetime resident, Marilyn was born in Racine on August 26, 1924 to the late Clarence and Olive (nee: Bohn) Hill. She attended St. Edward Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1942”. On February 23, 1946 in St. Edward’s, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Eugene Charles “Gene” Houdek, who preceded her in death on January 20, 1995.
During her working career, Marilyn was employed at Young Radiator and Case Corporation. With a profound Catholic faith, Marilyn was a lifetime member of St. Edward Parish where she was extremely active with the Altar Sodality (serving as Prefect and Secretary), Christian Mothers, Study Club, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Girl Scout Leader (was honored with the St. Anne Award) and very seldom missed daily Mass. Among her interests, Marilyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, fishing, reading, playing Dominoes and Schafskopf; and absolutely loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family – especially at their family retreat home on Pine Lake.
Surviving are her daughters, Virginia (William) Frayer, Kathryn (John) Lowman and Diane Houdek; grandchildren, Mark Frayer, Sarah (Matt) Stiff, Robert (Becky) Frayer, Christine Frayer, Timothy Lowman, Jeffrey (Hilary) Lowman and Melissa (Chad) Lampton; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Colin Stiff; Evan and Ashlyn Frayer; CamiLee, Carter and Savannah Lowman; Eli Lowman; Hayden and Kaylee Lampton; sister-in-law, Joyce (Norbert) Pfeiffer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention by name.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Avenue, on Wednesday evening, October 31, 2012 at 7:00 pm with Rev. Howard Haase, Rev. Richard Molter and Rev. William Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:30 pm. Entombment services will take place at the chapel of Calvary Cemetery Garden Crypts, 2510 Kinzie Avenue, on Thursday at 10:00 am. In memory of Marilyn, memorials to St. Edward’s Parish, St. Catherine’s High School or to Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Hospice have been suggested.
A heartfelt note of thanks to Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Hospice and to Mary Ann Bohn for the compassionate care and support given in our Mom’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
