Sturtevant – Rita Ann Grasso, 79, passed away at Racine Hospice House on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. She was born in Ironwood, Michigan on October 3, 1935 to Michael and Lucille (nee: Gravitz) Cvengros. Rita was married in Ironwood, Michigan at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church to Joseph Grasso on June 30, 1956. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Rita spent most of her life living in Sturtevant, where she was an active and faithful member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and feeding the birds, watching the Packers play, and participating in the activities of her grandchildren. Her family and faith were most important to her, and she was happiest in the company of her family.
Rita is survived by her loving children, Glenn (Becky) Grasso of Cambridge, Catherine (Warren) Geyer of Mt. Pleasant, and David (Lynn) Grasso of Sturtevant; her “Pride and Joy” grandchildren, Cory Grasso of Cambridge, Kayla Grasso and Samantha Grasso both of Sturtevant. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas (Jane) Cvengros of Hurley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard (Barbara) Grasso of S. Milwaukee, Mary Strelcheck, Lucille Dovichi, and Michael (JoAnne) Grasso all in Michigan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Irene Christman and Marge Gruenwald. Rita was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Megan Rose Grasso.
The funeral mass for Rita Grasso will be held in her beloved St. Sebastian Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 6:30pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Public visitation will be from 5:00pm until the start of the mass. Private interment at West Lawn Memorial Park will take place on Wednesday. Rita’s family asks that friends consider donations in Rita’s memory to St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church.
The entire Grasso family would like to acknowledge and thank everyone at Wheaton Franciscan Hospice; Dr. Lisa Simonds and Peggy; Dr. Mark Choi; and the staff at Comfort Keepers for all of their help, kindness, and considerate care provided to our mother and grandmother.
