Racine – Grover Clifton Thomas, 99, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. He was born in Thomasville, Alabama on August 6, 1916, son of the late Tommy and Annie (nee: Coats) Thomas. Mr. Thomas was married to Rose Gardner for more than 50 years when she passed away in 2002. On May 5, 2006 he married Mary Ray Bonner in Racine.
Grover retired from the JI Case company following more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed nurturing his peach trees, and working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, and the JI Case 20-year club.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Mary Thomas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore and Betty Thomas, Pastor Joseph and Dorothy Thomas all of Racine; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother and sister-in-law Corlethus and Eleon Thomas; sisters, Alice Rice and Ruby Thomas both of Gary, Indiana; his step-children; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Samuel, Thomas Jr, and Collie Thomas; sister Beatrice McAfee; and step son-in-law Al Bell.
Homegoing services will be held in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church (1120 Center Street) on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11a.m. with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation in the church will begin at 10a.m.
