Racine – Shirlie Ann Conner, 82, passed away at Froedtert Memorial Hospital on Saturday, June 3, 2017. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on July 9, 1934. Shirlie graduated from Horlick high school in 1953. She enjoyed her work as a teacher’s assistant in the Racine Unified School District for many years.
Shirlie had many wonderful friends and enjoyed the company of her “club ladies” twice a month since graduating from high school. She enjoyed attending and participating in church activities, reading, old black and white movies, crafts (especially sewing), and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren. Shirlie was an excellent mother and wife, energetic in her approach to life and fun loving. She and Wendel could dance a “mean” jitterbug.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wendel Conner; children Wendy Lee Sobic and her husband Dan of Scottsdale, Arizona; Jon Conner and his wife Dawn of Kenosha; grandchildren Christopher Sobic and his wife Libby of Mequon, Stephanie Gauthier and her husband Chas of Midland, Texas, Nicole Vargas and her husband Shawn of Kenosha, Timothy Conner of Kenosha, and Steven Conner of Kootenai, Idaho. Shirlie was blessed with three great grandchildren; Jacob Vargas, Joseph Vargas, Jagger Gauthier and a 4th expected in mid – July. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kristie Marie Conner and her beloved sisters Beverly Boutell, Audrey Meinert and her mother Erma Schwertfeger.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9 at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Avenue, Racine) at 11 a.m. with Fr. Javier Guativa officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home Thursday night from 5pm to 7pm; and in the church on Friday beginning at 11am. A private family burial will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to St. Lucy’s Church have been suggested.
Debra Moore says
Sorry for the lost of your love one. I pray for comfort and peace for your family that only Jehovah God can give. Jehovah has given us his solemn word at Revelations 21:3,4 that death will be no more. We look forward to the day when we will see our love ones again.
