Floyd James Kirkwood, age 82, answered the call of his Heavenly Father and entered into eternity on Friday, August 4, 2017.
“Uncle Pop”, “The Doc” or James, as he was affectionately called by many, was born on March 1, 1935 in New Albany, MS, to the late Floyd and Mary (Nee: Footes) Kirkwood. After his formal education, he migrated to the north for better job opportunities. He met and married Annie B. (nee: Perry) Kirkwood. They were married for 54 years and out from that union, three beautiful daughters were born. James was a hard worker, he would work fulltime and part-time jobs to support his family.
James loved to barbeque, garden, and sit under the cherry tree with his “kool aid”. He retired after over 30 years from Harris Metals/Premier Aluminum. After retirement he enjoyed watching softball games and riding around the city people watching. In his latter years he moved to Killary Kourt Senior Living, where he enjoyed visits from friends and family and more than anything he loved being with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Annie B. Kirkwood; brother, Charles Kirkwood and sister, Elizabeth Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memories, children, Selethia (Terry) Gunn, Felicia (Eliot) Washington, Vicki Kirkwood-Love, Elaine Spears; sister, Delphia Estes; grandchildren, Charlythia Beal, Chad Williams, Serena Smith, Larie Love, Paris (Quincy) LaGrant and Terri Ann (Julius) Jones; great grandchildren, Cameron, Dangelo, Abrianna, Blake, Jordon, Alani, Samari and Mason; special nephews, Larry and Dennis; special nieces, Shirley, Debra, Denise and Jan; special family members, Robert Perry, Rufus Perry, Ira Estes, Jean Madison and the late JC Thompson as well as a host of in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 11:00am at Greater Grace Temple COGIC, 522 N. Memorial Dr., Racine, WI. The Visitation will be in the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
