Burlington (formerly of Racine) – Paul Herrmann is enjoying his heavenly rest after a long battle with kidney disease and the complications associated with it. He is missed by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice (Allie) and his four daughters, Gretchen, Jenifer (Stephen) Eroskey, Mary (Jack) Flynn and Ellen (Fred) Becker. His dear grandchildren will also miss time and fun with their grandpa – Matthew, Madeline and Katie Eroskey and Taylor, Jim and Paul Becker.
Originally from Kenosha, Paul came from a family of six children, four who will have already met him in heaven, Bernard, Mary Ann Munger, Catherine Collova and Evelyn Pitts. His younger brother, George and his wife Donna live close to Bea and will continue to comfort and help her as they all learn to navigate in a world a little less bright. His many nieces and nephews and their children as well have loved him their whole lives, and will miss their Uncle Paul with a special pang. But each of his relatives know he is in heaven, with his parents, enjoying his eternal reward and acting as guardian angel-in-chief keeping them from harm and showing by his example the way to live a good and generous life.
Paul was also blessed with many, many dear friends each of whom will find it hard to fill the laughing and tender space left by his passing.
After spending time serving his country, Paul began his working career at SC Johnson in 1954 where he continued to work for over 30 years. In 2005, he retired from Johnson Worldwide Associates, now Johnson Outdoors, as Chief Financial Officer. During his long career he travelled the world alone or with Bea, on business or with friends, exploring Australia, Italy, Japan, Greece, Germany, Scotland and places in between.
His faith was an integral part of his life. He and his family were members of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, where he also served as Lector, Trustee, and an active member of the Finance and Building Committees. Later he and Bea became members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale, AZ and St. Francis DeSales in Lake Geneva. Paul led a life of faith, generosity and love and was a follower of his close friend, Jesus, in all ways.
In retirement, Paul continued to enjoy golf with his buddies, spend untold hours on his computer, uncovering the possibilities of his iPad and expanding his cooking and baking skills.
After a long and blessed life, Paul is at peace in his heaven along with friends and family who have gone before him. His family wants to thank the staff at Burlington Memorial Hospital for the extraordinary care and infinite compassion they showed him throughout his last weeks there, especially Carol, Piper and Pat, Mary and Elizabeth, and Dr. Nicholas Otten. And for his general care before and after his kidney illness, Dr. Robert Gullberg in Racine and Dr. Irven Cohen at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. Finally, for the drivers who took Paul to and from his doctors’ appointments and dialysis, especially Lyle, thank you for being there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Saint Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue in Racine, with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. A reception will follow. Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Private interment will take place at St. George Cemetery – Kenosha. In lieu of flowers, Paul would ask that you send donations to St. Catherine’s High School in Racine, or the charity of your choice.

I worked with Paul when Johnson Diversified was first formed. I will never forget him. Understanding and patient, he always had a smile and a kind word. He also had a great sense of humor which helped us all during those years. He was truly one of the nicest guys I have ever met. My condolences to his family.

To the Herrmann family:
You are in our thoughts and prayers. I had the opportunity to go to the Lighthouse resort recently & fondly recalled the many Memorial Day weekends spent there with your family. In life, we hope that our presence on earth has mattered to someone – your family has mattered to me.
I wish you peace of mind and heart.

I was a very young guy when Mr. VP Hermann came into my office and said “What are your priorities”. I answered him and he said I was totally backward on my priorities. Long story short Paul said How about being our National Training Manager….I said, Paul I don’t have any training to be a trainer….Paul said, “We will train ;you”. That was the beginning of a great working career for me at SC Johnson…I never had the chance to thank Paul for his support and his confidence in me as a very young guy…THANK YOU MR PAUL HERRMAN….Sorry I missed thanking you but…well I was pretty busy…GOD BLESS YOU PAUL THANK YOU FOR EVERY DOOR YOU OPENED FOR ME… and to his family…he as a very special great man.
