Racine – Albert John Lampe, age 96, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Ridgewood Care Center on Sunday, December 10, 2017.
Albert was born in Arcadia, Iowa on March 20, 1921 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (nee: Lampman) Lampe. On August 30, 1943 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, Iowa, he married Margaret Christina Meister. For the next 12 years, they farmed in Arcadia, IA. In 1957, they moved to the Mosinee, WI area where they were engaged in farming until their retirement. He also worked for Volkswagen as a mechanic for ten years. After retirement, they moved into the city of Mosinee. Albert and Margaret were active members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Knowlton, WI and St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee, prior to moving to Racine in 2015. Albert loved any engine that took gasoline. He also was meticulous with his cars and was always cleaning them.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Jerry Ruud) Wise; son, Gary (Carleen) Lampe; grandchildren, Jeremy Stroyny, Christopher Lampe, Mary Ellen (Al) Cole and Scott (Cindy) Wise; great-grandchildren, Brandon Cole and Samantha Adams; his brother, Marvin Lampe of Carroll, IA; his sister, Isabelle Dentlinger of Dennison, IA; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Albert was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Charles Wise; and brothers, Clarence (Bertha) Lampe, Herman (Sally) Lampe, Joseph (Helen) Lampe and his sisters, Pauline Lampe and Dorothy (Hilbert) Meister.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 5:00 pm in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Private interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Memorials to your favorite charity have been suggested.
A special note of thanks to the wonderful staff at Ridgewood Care Center and to Hospice Alliance for the compassionate care and support given in Albert’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
