
John R. Janosko,94, went to his heavenly home on December 19, 2017, to join his loving wife with his daughters and pastor by his side. John was born to the late Nicholas and Barbara (née: Hudak) Janosko on December 6, 1923.
On May 18, 1946 John married the love of his life, the former Arlene E. Neubauer, at Grace Lutheran Church in Racine. They shared 71 years together and she preceded him in death on November 24, 2017.
John grew up in Lake Park where he attended Hansche School and later Washington Park High School graduating in 1941. John was called to service during WWII and proudly served his country from April 1943- October 1945. As a platoon Sargent in the 45th Infantry Division he engaged in many battles from the Anzio beach head invasion, the capture of Rome, the fight for Nuremberg, and the liberation of Dachau concentration camp. John was awarded the Combat infantry badge, Silver Battle Star, invasion arrowhead, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. He always said there was a guardian angel who brought him safely home to his family and future bride.
For 32 years John was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He retired in 1979 as manager of the West Racine Post Office. He spent many hours volunteering at the information desk at Ascension hospital and in the Lutheran Thrift Store. John enjoyed restoring old clocks, boats, and cars. There was nothing he could not fix. John was an avid reader and a skilled wood -worker. He made furniture, walking canes and treasured toys for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, spending time with his family was John’s greatest joy.
Surviving are his loving daughters, Diana (Jeffery) Hembrook of Bokeelia, Florida, Barbara (Robert) Puder of Racine; grandchildren, Kelly (Troy) Watros of Little Elm, TX, Matt (Kimberly) Hembrook of Anthem, AZ; Chad (Sarah) Hembrook of Chatham, IL; and nine great-grandchildren. John loved his family dearly.
In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by his brothers, Harry and Edward; and sister Marilyn. John experienced the loss of many other family members and friends.
A private service for the family has taken place.
