Mary E. Terselic, 89, passed away, peacefully, at her residence on Thursday, December 28, 2017, with her loving family at her side. She was born in Racine on May 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose (Nee: Scholzen) Ludwig.
Mary was a graduate of St. Catherine High School, Class of 1946. After high school, Mary was an architectural guide with Johnson Wax and later worked at the Racine Public Library. She was a well-established realtor with N. Christensen Real Estate, as well as a renowned artist. After winning a second-grade coloring contest, Mary went on to try all media. She enjoyed working with metal, wood, and canvas using oil and acrylic paints, and inks. Mary made her own paper and used it in collages, creative mirrors, and notecards. She continued to use handmade paper in her art but recently returned to painting canvas with acrylic paints. Mary’s paintings were sought after by many. She exhibited her works in 6 surrounding states, with works as far away as Japan. She has received many awards and has works in permanent exhibits. In 2017, Mary exhibited work in the Anderson Arts Center and Revision Gallery in Kenosha. She was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Parish, the Racine Realtor Board, past president of the Racine Art Guild, and the Racine Garden Club, and chairwoman of the Starving Artist Fair.

To her family, Mary will be remembered as one who influenced them the most. She approached each day with optimism and tenacity and was a lifelong learner. Her unwavering determination was woven into the fabric of each day. She gave her children and grandchildren the confidence to try anything and make mistakes. She always welcomed an unexpected guest and set another plate at the table. Mary was quick to help anyone in need.

Mary was a lovely person, warm, friendly and helpful. I met her when she was a realtor for N. Christensen. Ironically, I was her first client when she sold her first house to me and also her last client, years later, when she sold a house for me just before she retired. I also had the pleasure of seeing her beautiful garden and some of her artwork. My condolences to you, her family. May God bless and comfort you in your loss.
