Miller's FlowersSurrounded by his loving family, John Charles Prochazka, age 63, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at his home.
John was born in Racine, October 12, 1954, son of Susan (nee: Chudowsky) and Charles John Prochazka. In the early 1970’s while he was attending college, he met Rita “Colleen” Mac Phail and after a six year “feeling out period” and engagement, they were married on October 20, 1979. They were blessed with a daughter, Sydney Miller Prochazka on August 20, 1985.
John graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1972 and went on to get his degree in Culinary Arts. He was employed at the former Dock’s & Swinger’s Restaurants and Bucket’s Pub. He took his skills and talent with him when he changed profession and went to work for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Correction as a Food Service Supervisor instilling in those that paid attention that they could leave someday with an employable trade.
Besides his love of cooking and entertaining, John found joy for many years playing softball and bowling. He found his therapy in gardening and putzing around the house. His spirts soared and usually crashed while he endured many years of being a Brewer, Packer and Xavier basketball fan. Above all, his greatest self-gratification came from a deep devotion and respect for the game of golf. Starting as a child and ending in death, it was his passion. Whether representing the Case High School golf team or being the Midwest Regional champion for the Longest Drive Contest, it set his standards for his approach to life. Those that played with him said that he could hit that little white ball a “country mile” and he knew it.
He is survived by his wife & soulmate, Colleen; their child Sydney and her husband Christopher Herb; their very special Goddaughter and “1st born”, Heather (Brendan) Saunders, and their daughter, Dorothea “Thea”; John’s mother, Susan Prochazka; cousins, Nancy Nelson and Gerald (Robin) Smerchek; and his “Intercircle of Brotherhood”, Tom Olsen (Syd’s Godfather), Wally Starks (golf partner of choice & much more), Tim (Kim) Mitchell (reality checker), Don (Karen) Rorek (Buca buddy & travel companions), and John (Cindy) Haluska (his golfing partner in Monday league play for many more years than he would ever want to own up to); other really close friends- too numerous to mention by name. John was preceded in death by his father, Charles; sister, Lynn Prochazka; his father and mother-in-law, Robert & Patricia Mac Phail, and his beloved cat, Edgar.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 25th, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26th, at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ryan Starks officiating. Friends may also visit at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, an account will be set up at Johnson’s Bank for the a memorial fund to be established later, or donation have been suggested by the family in John’s name to The First Tee Program, helping young children learn the rules and game of golf.
