Racine, WI – Ressie Ray (nee: House) Jones, age 91, went to be with our Lord and Savior at Ridgewood Care Center in Racine, Wisconsin on Friday, December 21, 2018 with her family by her side.  She was born on February 16, 1927 to the late Lenzy “Bud” and Luerellia (nee: Williams) House in Memphis, Tennessee.  She was one of fourteen children.

Ressia grew up in Tennessee and later relocated to Racine, Wisconsin in the early 1960’s.

Ressia was a member of Lakeview Church of Christ until her health began to fail and she was no longer able to attend.

Ressia was blessed with seven children. Many years later she met and married the love of her life, Clethis Jones, they remained married until his passing in 1995.

Ressia had a sweet, fun, humorous spirit. She loved to do laundry, she also enjoyed cooking and cleaning. Her favorite foods ALWAYS included chicken. Ressia said “Chicken in the Morning, Chicken in the evening, Chicken ALL DAY LONG!” Her favorite singer was Whitney Houston, whom she could listen to for hours and hours.  One of her greatest accomplishments was living to witness The United States First African-American President in office, Mr. Barack Obama, she would often say “That’s my president!”   She was always passionate about her family and friends. To know Ressia truly was to love her.

Ressia leaves to cherish her precious memories, two sons, Robert Sammy (Marilyn) Davis and David Augusta Ferrell; two daughters, Annie Ray Davis and Alice Fay (James) Davis-Jackson; twenty grandchildren, Benjamin Davis, Tavares Davis, Patricia Davis, Marietta Davis, Dorothy (Jim) Harper, Antoinette (Johnny) Green, Rhonda (Vance) Witherspoon, D’qunte Brigance,  Tamara Jones, Lorenzo (Titus) Davis, Sherrie Silas, Dareva Dawson, LaTisha Petty, Defabian Golden, Shaniquwa Ferrell, Elizabeth Ferrell, Jasmine Ferrell, David Farrell JR., QwaDavion Ferrell and Laressia Davis; forty seven great-grandchildren and twenty one great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mamie Lou Webb; two brothers, Joe J. House and Charles (Linda) House. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

She was preceded in death by the parents Lenzy “Bud” and Luerilla House; her husband, Clethis Jones; three children, Charles Lewis Davis, Lawrence T. Davis and Dellia Ray Ferrell; her granddaughter, Kyra Payne; ten siblings, Norlenia Sherron, Lizzie Barnett, Eva Mae Lacy, Charlotte Clayton, Alvernice Payne, Addie Bell Klyce, Lee House, Thomas house, Moses House and Herman Warren.

Ressia Ray (nee: House) Jones, age 91, passes away on December 21, 2018.  A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2018 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI.  Visitation will take place in the chapel from 10:00am until the time of service.

Testimonials

November 13, 2019

The funeral service was just beautiful and very warming to everyone including my family. All the pictures they did and the employees were just fantastic. This is one funeral home I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to feel comfortable and to be treated like family. I can’t say enough good things because it was just such a warm welcome. Thank you to Mark and Mike. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
