Memorial Suggestions
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society or Racine Lutheran High School. The family would like to thank Dr. Cuevas, the Reiman Cancer Center, Ascension-Franklin Hospital and Seasons Hospice Oak Creek for the love and compassion they showed Mike and the family.
Michael Alexander “Mike” Miller, age 39, of Franklin, WI, formerly of Racine was called Home by his Loving, Lord and Savior and completed his earthly journey following a 22 month courageous battle with a rare form of lung cancer caused by the ALK gene mutation. Mike was born July 1, 1981 in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, and is the son of Harold and Marilynn (nee: Richardson) Miller.
Mike graduated from Racine Lutheran High School and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mike was a dedicated employee for the past 18 years at Northwestern Mutual and most recently held the position of Senior Business Analyst. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Mike’s lifelong passion was attending all levels of hockey games throughout North America. His favorite teams were the Chicago Blackhawks and the Wisconsin Badgers. He had season tickets for the Badgers and might as well have had for the “Hawks” for all the time he spent at the United Center.
Surviving are his loving and devoted parents, Harold and Marilynn; his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Melissa Miller, and her husband Max McNally, of Durham, NC; his uncle Len (Wendy) Miller, of Collingwood, Ontario Canada. Mike is also survived by a host of relatives in Canada and numerous friends and co-workers here in Wisconsin.

We are terribly saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. We were looking through Grandma Miller’s book yesterday telling stories and reliving memories. His zest for hockey and family was to be admired. It was comforting to know you were with him at the end. We have been thinking about you, we hope you feel our love from up here.

My deepest condolences for your family’s loss. I worked with Mike at NM over the last year and he was an exceptional colleague who spent many an hour with me helping me learn a lot of what I know today. He was someone who was not just highly respected for his knowledge and professionalism, he was loved by his colleagues for his helpful nature and pleasing personality. RIP Mike and we will all miss you!

Mike, you were one of a kind. So quiet but when you had something to say it always made us laugh. This isn’t goodbye but more like see ya later. Rest easy my friend.
Julia says
Mike you will be missed. You were a pleasure to work with. You were so good at your job, professional and smart, but also even-tempered, able to come up with solutions in difficult situations and just fun to work with. I will truly miss working with you.
Mike Rolefson says
I am so sorry for your loss…Mike always had a smile and kind greeting when we saw each other at work, especially when we crossed paths during our many walking laps around the building. I never worked on anything with him but met him through fantasy football…I remember how he beat me for the championship one year by picking up guys I didn’t expect to play in week 17. I so wish I had known about his hockey passion, I would have loved to have conversations about Badger hockey…I’m sure we were both at the Bradley Center about 15 years ago for the championship game.
Jenn Kerlin says
I worked with Mike when I first started at NM 14 years ago. He was one of the kindest, sweetest souls I’d ever met. He was so eager to help anyone who needed it and always had a smile on his face. I didn’t think he could ever be in a bad mood, he certainly never showed it. His light was so bright and touched so many people at NM in the last 18 years. This world will be definitely be less bright without him in it. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you can take comfort in all the great memories you had with him, and knowing how many people he impacted so positively. He will be missed very much!

So sorry to hear this sad news. I will always remember Michael as the little boy who was so excited about the kraft case.
Ron and Jane Hitzelberger says
When Mike worked for me many, many years ago, at SC Johnson, he impressed me with the work ethic he exhibited at such a young age. Harold must have been so proud of him. There was no doubt, Mike was going to be successful in life, and he was. He was bright, punctual, and respectful, and it was apparent that he was the product of a loving, stable home. I already knew that, because Harold and Marilyn were good people, and good friends.
We were so very sorry to hear the news of Mike’s passing, and we know that his family was surrounding him with all their love during his illness, as they did during his whole journey through life…a journey that was too short. Our deepest sympathy Harold, Marilyn, Melissa and family.

I worked with Mike at SC Johnson many, many years ago, and I was impressed with his work ethic at such an early age. He was bright, punctual, respectful, and always pleasant to be around. Traits that he undoubtedly acquired, growing up in a lovely, caring family. I knew that, because Harold and Marilyn were good people, and good friends of ours.
We were so very sorry to hear the news of Mike’s passing, but we know that he was surrounded by the love and care of his family, that guided and comforted him all of his life, a life too short.
Our deepest sympathy and love to you, Harold, Marilyn, Melissa and family.
