William Goss Jr. was born November 5, 1942, to William Goss Sr. and Winnie Goss (Spencer) in Minter City Mississippi. William Goss affectionately known as Junior (Jr.) or Short Dogg, received his formal education in the Minter City Public School system. Junior moved from Mississippi in his late teens to Iowa before settling down in Racine WI where he worked for Bell City and finally Case manufacturing plant before injuring his back.
Junior was a self-made man and made his living as a Mechanic where he opened up his own car repair shop in Kenosha WI for a number of years after that one closed he continued to work on vehicles with some of his close friends, but always longed to have his own shop again and years later he was able to do just that this time in Racine WI. Junior also made a living as a bartender for the Viaduct in Kenosha WI and Also for Bucks Bar in Racine WI for a number of years.
Even though Junior enjoyed working on vehicles and bartending his most enjoyable past time was his lifelong love for Pool, he was a masterfully skilled self taught player. He spent countless hours practicing and trying to perfect his game. Everyone who heard his signature catch phrase “SHORT DOGG IN THE HOUSE” when he entered the pool hall knew it was going to be a long night filled with a few cuss words, comical banter, drinks and ton of women being flirted with.
Junior was very passionate about family and was more than just a father. He was a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend. And he relished in each of those roles and tried to be the best he could in them.
Junior passed away on Saturday September 11, 2021 at his home in Milwaukee WI.
He leaves to cherish his memories, Two daughters: Gaylynn (Derrick) Oates of Racine WI, Takeisha (James) Spann Moore of Kenosha WI, Two Sons: Marshon (Darlene) Bogan of Racine WI, William Terrell Smith of Milwaukee WI, Four Sisters: Fannie Simms, Martha Goss, Mary Ghani, and Della Goss all of Racine WI. I remember Junior from back in my “hangout days” I remember him as a bartender, for the Capt in Kenosha but mostly as a supernatural pool player. He was an all around cool dude . We may not see people often, but we never forget decent people. I send my deepest sympathy to his family, and I pray for your strength to get through this sad and trying time.
