Journey of Life
Kevin Lydell Stewart, Senior was born on August 13, 1959 to the union of the late Earnest J. Stewart(deceased) and Doris Dean Trammel Stewart, in Magnolia, Arkansas. Kevin was born at the home of his great-grandfather Reverend Benjamin Harper, located on Harper Road near Calhoun Road. Kevin was delivered by midwife Willie Lee Tillmer; also present for his birth was his AuntGeorgia Dell Russ. Kevin, Sr., on January 1, 2022, under care at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, exited this life on earth to go be with his Father in Heaven.
Kevin Senior accepted Jesus Christ as his LORD and SAVIOR at the early age of six. He was baptized by the late Reverend Mack. C. Davis at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Racine, Wisconsin.
Kevin was a Racine native who graduated from Washington Park High School, later attending Parkside University for studies in Business Administration, followed by Real Estate Services. Kevin was a comprehensive man who was very meticulous with his speech. He possessed a wealth of knowledge. Kevin worked as a drug and alcohol/mental health counselor in collaborationwith Tuning Point Inc. and continued educating the young generation through his work at the Life Star Driving School, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Kevin was a devoted son to his mother, Mrs. Doris D. Stewart. He made sure to travel home to Racine, WI to prepare a special holiday meal, inclusive of all her favorite entrees, for each Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving Day, as well as ministered to his mother is numerous other ways. Kevin was hospitable to family and friends. He was an exquisite cook, and the head chef for “Racine Day In The Park” for many years. Heoften prepared delicious, and healthy, meals forthose who visited with him in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Kevin later joined the Zion Baptist Church of Minneapolis, Minnesota near the year 2010, under the leadership of Reverend Brian Herron, Pastor. Kevin began attending the Zion Baptist Churchafter he heard a Worship Service on the radio. Kevin then wanted to go and hear the preacher in person and to meet him. Kevin served on the leadership team for The Men’s Ministry and was also part of the Evangelism Team D.O.T.S. (Disciples On The Streets). Kevin was continuously present with Pastor Herron for the Zion Baptist Church ministry events. He was faithful and always told the Pastor ‘…whenever and wherever you go please let me know so I can be there to support you and watch your back cause I ain’t scared.’
Kevin faithfully attended and participated in Bible Study and Sunday Morning Worship service. If Zion Baptist Church didn’t see Kevin it’s because he had gone home to see his mother or he wasn’t feeling well. Kevin additionally worked with and helped with the 21 Days of Peace Initiative, a Black Church Black Pastor–led intervention to decrease the violence in thecommunity on the Northside of Minneapolis. Zion Baptist Church partnered with another church and begin to be present on the block at one of the hotspots that was identified as a very troubled and violent area. Kevin, true to form, would be there faithfully. Kevin handed out Bibles, that he would sign, to the brothers and sisters out there on the block. The Zion Baptist Church could always count on Kevin to be there; it was a true ministry of presence that the Church actively engages in to this day. Kevin was a very important and vital part of the ministry at Zion and was the Pastor’sconfidant, friend, and self–appointed Armor Guard. Kevin could also be found sharing words of admonishment and encouragement to youngermen in his neighborhood. He not only shared encouraging words, but he also shared hispersonal resources to help boost the morale of those young people. He joined with others of his Church and otherwise, for special outreach events for those in need. Kevin secured men’s suits for community give-away events, shared in offering free hair-cuts, and boldly shared elements of the WORD of God. Kevin indeed followed the instructions given by Christ Jesus, Matthew 28:19-20: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”Brother Kevin, Sr. was prolific as a BOLD witness for Jesus the Christ, as LORD and Savior.
Kevin later began a non-profit organization called“Homeless Men’s Project” which helps homeless men obtain self-sufficiency through personal development programs that provide housing, drug and alcohol counseling, employment, etc.
Kevin loved roller skating, dancing, ‘shooting’pool, and watching “every” (football, baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.) sports game. He enjoyed sharing ideas, wisdom, and good conversation with family/friends. He was a mover and a shaker. Kevin was a good and faithful father/grandfatherand friend to many. He touched many lives with his generous but straightforward approach. He will be missed.
