Racine – MaryLynn Charlotte Broughman “Nonna”, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
MaryLynn was born in Kenosha on January 23, 1943, the only child of the late Chester and Marie (nee: Del Frate) Kulesh. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School. On August 7, 1965 in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with James Broughman.
MaryLynn and Jim owned & operated Gateway Tool & Die and MGM Tool & Die. MaryLynn & Jim worked together, cooked together, traveled together….literally did everything together. You rarely saw one without the other. A part of Nonna was missing when Jim passed away on January 16, 2000. A few years later, Nonna moved from Kenosha to Racine to be closer to family.
While in Kenosha, Nonna was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she taught religious education and joined the Christian Family Movement. In Racine, she was a dedicated member of St. Mary by the Lake Catholic Church where she served as a trustee. Years ago, MaryLynn was involved in the Jaycettes and proudly served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Leader. In more recent years, Nonna enjoyed spending every available moment with her kids, grandchildren, many dear friends and always looked forward to a good Lenten fish fry. Praying the rosary was a part of her daily life.
Surviving are her children, Gregory (Nicole) Broughman, Melissa (Tom) Dreifuerst and Mary (Anthony) Rosa; grandchildren, James, Daniel & Magdelyn Dreifuerst; step grandchildren Bri, Coty, and Levi, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nonna was preceded in death by Jim’s parents, William Wiley & Mary Broughman; and sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Corrine (Elmer) Thrasher, Casey (Angie) Broughman, Maggie (Bill) Ferguson and Annie (Ken) Krause.

A heartfelt note of thanks to Nonna’s amazing caregivers, Mary Drain and Valentina Avila, and to Allay Hospice for the compassionate care, love, and support given in our Mom’s time of need. Because of them, Nonna was blessed to pass away peacefully in her home with her cat, Sugar, by her side. We will be forever grateful. May God bless all of you!

Our hearts and prayers go out to all her children and grandchildren. She will truly be missed. She was a wonderful person filled with joy and love. What an amazing reunion there is in heaven right now.

Gateway Tool & Die was a great company led by Jim and MaryLynn. She is going back to Jim’s side – where she is best remembered. They were a team! God bless the Broughman family.
Carl and Marilyn Sevey says
We send our condolences to MaryLynn’s children and grandchildren. She always called
Carl her “kissing cousin.” She was such a wonderful lady. The last time we saw her was
at the Fish Fry at St. Mary’s in Kenosha. It was fun seeing her and talking with her.
It was talking about “old” times. Especially talking about “Uncle” Chet and “Aunt” Marie.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Love, Carl and Marilyn Sevey

I was saddened to hear of your mom’s passing. I met MaryLyn on a pilgrimage we took together. Her spirituality was amazing. Her smile lit up a room. I was blessed to get to know her. May she rest in peace.
Rev. Holly Anderle, First Baptist Church says
Just now finding out MaryLynn passed into God’s Kingdom – so sorry I missed her services.
MaryLynn was an amazing woman! She, as the leader of the St Mary’s by the Lake team, was a huge part of the Monday Night Meal Program for a number of years. We spent many hours cooking, serving the hungry, chatting, and sharing stories. I was very, very fond of her. There will never be another like her. May God hold her tenderly; may she rise in peace and rest in glory! All of you, her family, are in my prayers.
