Alice Cecilia Serpe, age 99, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23rd, 2024 at Willowbrook Assisted Living in Kenosha, WI. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 19th, 1925, in Kenosha, Alice was the youngest child of Kazimir and Veronica (Jankauskas) Piperas.
She attended St. Peter’s Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School. On September 6th, 1946, Alice married her lifetime love, Frank A. Serpe, at St. Peter’s Church. Together, they began an adventure of memories that spanned almost sixty years.
In 1956, they built their forever home. Alice used her many talents as a dedicated gardener, creative seamstress and skillful wallpaperer to decorate their home inside and out. It was a constant expression of her love and care. Because of her deep love for animals, their family grew over the years to include many beloved cats and dogs, each one a cherished companion. She loved to watch the squirrels and bunnies enjoying the yard, and especially her treasured yellow finches at the bird feeder. She was an avid reader, dedicating daily time to a good book. Alice’s love of sports was well known, especially her devotion to the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. She never wanted to miss a game. Chocolates and sweets were her weakness, never lasting long in her presence. Her sweet tooth was legendary. Humor was a steady anchor in Alice’s life. She cherished a good joke or a funny card, always bringing laughter to those around her. Her faith was incredibly important to her, and she prayed the Rosary every day.
Alice is survived by three children, Michael (Deb Hertzberg), Patti (Jim) Althaus and Mark (Barb) and daughter-in-law, Sheryl Gierahn. She is further survived by her loving grandchildren Jenni (Kyle) Kibar, Sarah (Jason) Olson, Chris (Carolyn) and Daniel (Callie) Althaus and her many cherished great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 2007, as well as her parents and siblings Marion Pappas, Vera Tenuta and Charles Piperas.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Neil Shepler for over thirty years of exceptional care and the entire staff of Willowbrook Assisted Living for treating her like family and making her so comfortable. Also, a very special thank you to RN Sarah and the girls from Hospice Alliance. Take time to laugh with your loved ones and cherish the small moments that bring happiness. To Alice, there was nothing greater than the joy shared among family and friends.
