Kenosha – Charles E Nass, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Library Terrace Assisted Living in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Born in Racine, Wisconsin, he came to Kenosha in 1941, where he attended Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Mary D Bradford High School in 1946. On November 6, 1948, he married Jean C. Kemen at St Mark Catholic Church of which he was a member.
After high school, Chuck worked at Simmons Corporation in Kenosha until August 1948, when he enlisted in United States Air Force, where he was stationed at the Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged in 1949.
He returned to Kenosha after leaving the Air Force and became an employee of Kemen Meats working beside his father-in-law and brother-in-law. The business grew and served the Kenosha and Racine Counties supplying high quality cheese, sausage, bacon and ham products. In 1959, he became Vice President of Kemen Sausage in Kenosha, where they manufactured many fine sausage products.
Charlie loved building things and working with his hands. He built a 1 ½ car garage and added a 400 sq ft family room addition to his southside home. The foundation trench was dug “by hand” by Chuck while his young children played in the dirt pile he created!
Chuck bowled in the winter and loved playing golf in the summer. He formed several Kemen golf leagues at the local Bristol Oaks and Brighton Dale courses over the years. The “Kemen” Brighton Dale Golf league is still in existence.
He was a member of the Joe Andrea Class of ‘46’ Breakfast Club. He was a member of the Elks Club, played cards at the Senior Center, and served as an usher at St. Marks Catholic Chuck for decades. He was remembered for his broad “ever present” smile and helpful nature.
He is survived by his wife Jean, son Gary (Julie) in Naperville, IL, Karen (Ronald) Kirsch – Kenosha, Janet McDonald in Milwaukee. Five cherished grandchildren, Adam, Karolyn, Lindsay, Kelly and Emily. Five cherished great grandchildren, Eden, Nate, Lucien, Liliana and Martha.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertrude, half-brother Gordon, brothers Arnold and Melvin and sisters Loretta and Jeannette.
