Memorial Suggestions

Evelyn Heinrich (nee: Williams), age 92, passed away at Gurnee Place Memory Care Community on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Evelyn was born in Racine to Joseph and Bernadine (nee: Harrington) Williams. At an early age, Evelyn and her brother Clarence were introduced to the public as a song-and-dance act. They were part of the “minstrel show” entertainment offered by the family church parish, St. Patrick’s. She also acted in the Racine Children’s Theater. Both sides of Evelyn’s family were musically gifted, including her mother and Grandfather Harrington, an actual travelling minstrel who delighted in entertaining the grandkids with his “Laughing Song.”  A 1951 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School, Evelyn and her girlfriends were in a “gang.”  They hung out together throughout high school and remained lifelong friends. As a teenager she worked several part time jobs including the Federal Bake Shop and the National Five and Dime. As a young married woman, Evelyn was active in the women’s auxiliary of the social civic organization “Jaycees” and made close friendships that lasted decades.  She especially enjoyed the regular Friday evening parties they threw for each other.  Evie loved being a mother, was an excellent homemaker, and had a real sense of style. She loved her five grandchildren dearly.  Evie loved to read history generally and biographies particularly.  With her love of the theater and history, it was a natural fit that she became a docent at “Ten Chimneys,” the estate of Broadway legends, Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontaine.  She gave great tours full of stories and humor.  Evelyn was a long-time member of St. Lucy’s parish and volunteered many hours at church events.

Surviving are her son, Rob (Amy) Heinrich of Grayslake, Il; daughter, Stacy (Tim) Perrelle of Racine; grandchildren, Maxwell, Ian (Alli) and Emma Heinrich, Nicholas and Kara Perrelle; sister-in-law, Mary Williams; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bernadine; brothers, Joe (Gerry), Clarence (Dorothy) and Chuck Williams.

Sending sympathy and prayers to Rob, Amy, Stacy, and Tim. I have great memories of Evie at cousins lunches and at our 50th wedding anniversary. Bernie and I also had a special time with her at “Ten Chimneys” one summer.
