A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church 7400-39th Avenue. Friends and relatives may greet the family from 9:30am until the time of Mass. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery. Mary Colleen Braig, age 91, of Kenosha, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Born in Appleton on January 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John and Marcella (McCormick) Newcomb. On June 21, 1958, in Appleton, Colleen was united in marriage to John Braig. They were blessed with three children and 57 years of marriage.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Menasha and Kaukauna Normal School, she began teaching at Triangle School, a one-room schoolhouse. She then taught at St. Mary’s Parish, Appleton and continued teaching until she married. Colleen shared her mother’s passion for family and sewing. Her handy work could be seen in her children’s school clothes, household drapery, a wedding gown, and doll clothes. She put her talent to good use, not only serving her family, but helping her community and friends when called. Colleen volunteered her time uplifting and educating new amputees. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Parish. In partnership with her husband, she spent many years supporting Rotary International in Southeastern Wisconsin
She will be deeply missed by her daughters; Maureen (Mark) Simon and Mary Jo Braig; two grandchildren, Rileigh and Annelise Simon; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Moquin and Barbara (Thomas) Allen; a brother-in-law, Michael (Carole) Braig; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her husband John G. Braig, her son John U. Braig, an infant brother, James Timothy; two infant sisters, Marcella Bidilia and Kitty Maureen; sister-in-law Elizabeth Lidral, and brothers-in-law Rev. Joseph U. Braig, Paul Lidral and John Moquin.
