Flowers by JosephMOUNT PLEASANT – Alan W Delfs, 85, passed away at Ascension All Saints on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
He was born in Canfield, OH on January 10, 1932, the son of the late Gilbert and Alice (nee: Beede) Delfs. He attended school in Canfield and graduated from Youngstown State. He served his nation with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. After the war he worked as a truck driver in his family business. On October 26, 1957 he married Irene Wal. They later divorced but remained close friends. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2007.
Alan moved his family to Racine in the early sixties and began his career in mechanical engineering for numerous companies including; JI Case, Jacobsen Textron and Haban Manufacturing.
He had many hobbies and passions that included; motorcycles, photography and holding a private pilot’s license. He also enjoyed going to the YMCA and socializing with other veterans and friends at the Piggly Wiggly on Washington Ave on Friday mornings.
Alan is survived by his son and daughters, Rick (Donna) Delfs of Union Grove, Sue Delfs of Kenosha and Jan Delfs of Phoenix; his grandchildren, Heather Delfs of Union Grove but works around the country as a traveling nurse, Ryan (Amanda Behrens) Delfs of Racine, Ryan (Mariah Colorado) Peil of U.W. Platteville; his great grandchild, due to be born in February; his sister, Karen MacDonald of Mentor, OH; as well as many nieces and nephews. Alan was also preceded in death by his sister, Julienne (Leonard) Gagliardi and brother-in-law, Allan MacDonald.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Saturday, September 9, 2017 for a visitation and time to meet with family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A service celebrating his life will follow at noon with military honors. A private interment will take place in the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or to a veterans group of one’s choice.
