Audrey C. Martell, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 21, 2019 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

She was born in Kenosha on September 30, 1929, to Reuben and Leona (Joerndt) Vick. She grew up in Kenosha and attended school there graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1948. She was a longtime member of St. Elizabeth (formerly St. George) Catholic Church. While in high school Audrey was the drum majorette for the CYO Band and enjoyed roller skating, ice skating and jitter bugging. Upon graduation Audrey worked as a clerk for the judge at the Kenosha County Courthouse. Audrey met the love of her life, Donald Charles Martell, while at a dance at the American Legion in downtown Kenosha. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2010.

Audrey and Don were married, on July 28, 1951. They had many adventures during their 59 years of marriage as they lived in five different states; Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, New York, and Florida. Audrey moved back to Kenosha in 2012. While raising four children, Audrey also worked in different capacities. She was a medical secretary, real estate agent, and interior design assistant. Being a lifelong learner, Audrey attended Seminole Community College in Florida and earned her Associates of Arts Degree in 1992 at the age of 63. She traveled with her husband Don to Germany, Italy and Greece and Audrey’s adventurous spirit even took her on a Safari in Africa. She appreciated art and collected Edna Hibel lithographs. Audrey enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, and entertaining. She loved the fun and competition of a good card game, almost as much as she loved dancing.

Audrey is survived by her daughters, Linda (Roger) Ratliff of St. Clair, MI, Dianne (Tim) Martell-Williams of Payson, AZ., Vicki Martell Blaney of Huntersville, NC; her grandchildren, Clint (Laura) Williams, Alex (Elena) Williams, Luke (Molly) Williams, Derek Williams, Keith Williams, Karen Williams, Breanna Blaney, Lauren Blaney; her great grandchildren, Eric and Aria Williams; her sisters, Shirley Gengembre, and Maureen Madison, as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

Audrey was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry Martell, her sisters, Kathleen Willems, and Maybeth Foreman, and her brothers in law, Robert Willems, Raymond Gengembre and Archie Foreman.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2019 for a visitation with the family from 2 – 3 p.m.  A service celebrating Audrey’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Fr. Mark Jones officiating.  A private interment will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Memorials have been suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Audrey and her son Jerry.

Dear family and friends, I’m very sorry for your loss. I’m looking forward to seeing God’s promise fulfilled at Revelation 21:4 where it says sickness, pain and death will be no more. I hope this scripture brings you comfort.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Many thanks to Bob and the staff of Draeger-Langendorf. This has been the hardest of times in my families lives and you were very attentive and helpful with all that needed to be done. The tribute that you created for my mother was beautiful and I shall not forget it. God bless all of you.
