Barbara was born in Atlanta, GA on September 27, 1939 to the late Coty and Maydell (nee: Easley) Kirksey. On November 8, 1959 Barbara Ann Kirksey was united in holy matrimony with Bernie McWhorter in Racine, WI. Their union was blessed with two sons.
She received her formal education at South Fulton High School in East Point, GA. There she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1957 as Miss South Fulton. She later obtained a degree in Fashion Apparel Design.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of 2nd Missionary Baptist Church and United Faith Missionary Baptist Church for over 54 years. She served on the Willing Workers Committee, Sunday School Committee, Building Fund Committee, Kitchen Committee, Financial Secretary and was a charter member of United Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
After 30 years of employment Barbara retired from the Racine Unified District as a Teacher Assistant/Home School Worker.
In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing, baking delicious desserts, gardening, crocheting and knitting. She was considered to be an excellent seamstress who was constantly in demand. Anything she put her hands to she created beauty.
Her passion for children and education continued after retirement. She volunteered as a tutor at the United Way organization and fed the hungry. Also, she was a lifetime member of the NAACP.
She leaves to cherish in her memory, children: Anthony (Cheryl) McWhorter, Andre (Rajeeyah) McWhorter, grandchildren: Syreeta McWhorter, Tiffany (Elbert) Whitelaw, Britia McWhorter, Darrius Chambers McWhorter, Tajone McWhorter, great-grandchildren: Gabrielle and Isabelle Whitelaw; god-daughter: Rani Jones, sisters and brother, Jenell Hall, Jean (Pete) Walker, Jerome Kirksey, Bernice Warner, Venery Morgan, and a host of special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I admired and looked up to her from a young age while attending Wadewitz elementary school. She always had a calming effect on everyone she came into contact with and she was the sweetest woman ever. She counseled me, scolded me out of love and she inspired me to dream big and never give up. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and I know she is now resting in a better place. God bless ❤.

I would like to send my condolences to family. My first encounter with Mrs. McWhorter was along time ago when Waderwitz Elementary School. She was always encouraging and so kind. I would see her from time to time as I got older and she would always smile and give me hug. It saddens me to know she is no longer on Earth but warms my heart to know she is safe in his arms.
