“As one whom his mother comforts; so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”   Isaiah 66:13

Bertha Mae Wainwright (Brown) was born on October 3, 1933, in Elwood, MS, to the union of James Brown, Sr., and Clara Lott-Brown.  She departed this life on April 22, 2021, at her home in Racine, WI.  Bertha was the second of ten children.  She received Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age.  She served as a member of several churches in Quitman and Stonewall, MS.

Bertha moved to Racine, WI, in 1963 and joined Second Missionary Baptist Church.  She later joined Christian Faith Fellowship Church where she has served as a mother of the church.

She has lived in Racine, WI, Hendersonville, TN, and Indianapolis, IN, over the past 58 years.

Bertha was united in marriage to E.W. Wainwright on June 1, 1951, in Stonewall, MS.  To this union five children were born.  Though they were not still legally married, Bertha stood by E.W. until his death on August 30, 2013.

During her entire life Bertha has been a hard-working woman.  She worked numerous jobs to provide for her children, and as a young girl she helped her parents care for her brothers and sisters.  As a grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, Bertha was very loving and very much a part of their lives.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings and her entire family.  She was a wonderful housekeeper and a fantastic cook.  Everyone loved her cooking, and she loved seeing people enjoy her food.

Bertha loved her church, and their faithfulness will never be forgotten by her family.  Pastor Willie and Pat Scott and the ministerial staff of Christian Faith Fellowship Church served her through prayer, home visits and telephone calls when her health began to decline.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memory five children:  Gloria Vereen, Hendersonville, TN; Carl (Dian) Wainwright, Stonewall, MS; Larry (Maria) Wainwright, Gallatin, TN; Douglas (Tricia) Wainwright, Indianapolis, IN; Shirley Billingsley, Racine, WI.  She is the grandmother of 14,

the great grandmother of 47 and the great great grandmother of 8.  She also leaves brothers and sisters: John Wesley Brown, Kenosha, WI; Dorothy Williams; Ella Louise Bostick; Phylistine (Robert) Franklin; James (Ethel) Brown, Jr.; Alice (Conaway) Johnson, all of Racine, WI; Gloria James, Quitman, MS; and F. Victoria Graves, Vancouver, WA; a very special niece, Tina Brown; a very special friend, Kathy Coates; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Even though we know she was ready to meet her Lord, letting her go is very hard.  Her love, jokes, cooking, being the family historian and always being there when we needed her will truly be missed.

Take your rest, Mama.  You truly deserve it!  We love you!!!

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
