Racine – Carmen Reyes, 61, passed away at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee on Monday, July 23, 2012. She was born in Hughes, Arkansas on April 8, 1951, daughter of the late Angel and Mary (nee: Hernandez) Reyes. Carmen was raised in Racine, and graduated from Horlick High School in 1969.
Carmen devoted 26 years working for Racine County as an administrative assistant in Crime Bureau, and the District Attorney’s office. Carmen was proud of her Mexican heritage. She enjoyed volunteering at the Mexican Fiesta, and discovering her family’s history through genealogical research. Her family was most important to her, and was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Gregory Anderson, and Jesse Benny Mendoza; grandchildren, Storm Atlanta Mendoza, Xavier Kane Mendoza, Jessie Marie Anderson, Alexis Lee Anderson, and Brenna Jefferson; brothers, John Reyes, Onebre Reyes, Sam Reyes, Raymond Reyes, and Ruben Layton; sisters, Elena Wright, Eva (Antonio) Zagal, and Nancy Reyes; brother-in-law, Dennis Keenan; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Sara Montes, and Mary Keenan.
A funeral mass for Carmen will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Terry Huebner officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. All are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home on Monday evening from 5pm – 7pm, or in the church on Tuesday beginning at 10am. Memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church have been suggested.
