Racine – Catherine “Jean” (nee: Scofield, Sliker) Garcia, 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded with the love of family, at The Villa at Lincoln Park on Sunday evening, June 17, 2018 following a four-year struggle with Alzheimer’s. Her beloved husband, Jack, took incredible care of Jean at their home until she transitioned into the nursing home six months ago. While at The Villa at Lincoln Park, Jack continued to share breakfast, lunch & dinner every-single day with Jean until she passed – an inspiring example of true love.
One of 21 children, Catherine “Jean” was born in Minot, North Dakota on February 2, 1942 to the late Clarence and Dorothy (nee: Davidson) Scofield. On September 9, 1999, she was united in marriage with Joaquin “Jack” Garcia, Jr. Extremely talented and crafty, Jean was an excellent seamstress. She truly enjoyed crocheting – having shared many of her creations with family & friends – especially her beautiful American Flags. Above all, Jean loved spending time with her entire family.
Surviving are her loving & devoted husband, Jack; daughter, Sandra Jean (Thomas) Madisen; son, William F. (Sharon) Sliker; grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) Heritsch, Joshua (Heidi) Madisen, Joseph Madisen and Bailee Sliker; great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Eleanor, Oliver, Theodore, Ameleia and Julian “Jude”; four brothers; Jack’s sister, Esther (Julian) Gonzalez; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her son, Louis Sliker; and by 16 brothers & sisters.
Funeral services will be held in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Friday, June 22, 2018. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 – 11:00 am.
A special note of thanks to the entire staff of The Villa at Lincoln Park for the compassionate care and support given in Jean’s time of need.

Even though Aunt Jeanie was just a year older I enjoyed growing up with her. You know your Aunts much better when you are the same age. She was a special lady, and I will miss her. Larry Vannett
