Clytee Smith

Feb 2, 1926 – Aug 12, 2010

Racine- Clytee Smith, 84, passed away peacefully and was born to Eternal Life on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Wheaton Franciscan  –  All Saints Hospital. Clytee was born on February 2, 1926 to the late Thomas and Estelle (nee:Jones) Driver, Jr.  Clytee moved to Detroit, MI in the early 1950’s.  She was employed as a seamstress at General Motors for over 26 years, retiring in 1993.  Following her retirement, Clytee moved to Racine to be close to her son. With a profound Christian faith, Clytee was a proud and active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist where she served on the Missionary Society until her health began to fail.  She loved to read her Bible and live out her religion – by helping others.  Clytee loved to watch baseball, football, and basketball.  Above all, she cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.  Surviving are her son, Samuel L. (Sonny and Kimberley Rogers) Driver, Sr. 5 grandchildren, Cassandra, Monika, Pavi, Samuel Jr. and Catrice.  15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sisters and brothers, Edna DuPree, W.D. (Mae Catherine) Driver, Edward Lee (Gloria) Driver, and Beatrice ( John) Barry; best friend Mattie B. Barry; many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Clytee was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.  A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1120 Grand Ave, with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby officiating.  Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 10-11 am.

Mike Langendorf, my parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you! Anne T.
