To the Campbell Family.. Don’t think of Darnell as gone away, his journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing, that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. Think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched, for nothing is ever lost. He was loved so much!

Lindsey Bingman says
I had met Darnell on Sept. 9th, 2002 in Kenosha, I was 19. It was like in the fairytales he took me by my hand and we fell in love. We did everything together from that day on shopping, cooking, going to restaurants, and taking the kids places. My daughter was 2 months when we met. She took her first steps for Darnell, she called him dada. Darnell watched Alissa all the time while I had worked and was there for her, her entire life. She would only eat chicken nuggets and once Darnell convinced her that burgers were good she started eating them and hasn’t stopped. There wasn’t a day that went by, I didn’t speak to him. Even when he was away he called me daily. We tried to have a child for years and then I became pregnant with big boy, we were so happy. He kept telling me it was a girl but he wasn’t. He was so proud after I had him. He kept big boy all the time when he was a baby. Darnell told everyone he was going to have a football team. When Darnell had gone away I traveled Wisconsin so big boy still knew his dad. We visited him at least once a month sometimes twice a month. When he was closer it was every time we had a visit. Then when I became pregnant with Phoebe we named her together. We were eating breakfast together at Denny’s and while I was looking at names in the baby book I saw Phoebe and we agreed that was the name. When we found out that I was having a girl he was so proud and excited. He called her moomoo and stank. He would always tell her she is going to have beautiful long hair and couldn’t wait for her to start walking. Everything wasn’t always perfect but as long as we were together it was. He would kiss me on my forehead and tell me he loved me every day. Darnell had just completed the big step program and started roofing. He was scared of heights, which he had to climb a ladder 4 stories high and told me every day, he came home it didn’t get easier. He told his boss he isn’t going to be going up and down this ladder so get what they needed before going up. It started snowing so roofing was over. He then had just got a job in the union doing asphalt and was so proud. His dreams had finally come true. He was going to be able to support his family and be there for his family the way he always wanted to be. He worked so hard to get there. He just completed his CDL tests and passed. He studied for weeks for the test and completed it. He came out of the DMV with the biggest smile on his face. He kept saying for weeks I’m going to do this. He started speaking in the classes for the big step program out of Gateway. He told everyone how great the program was and as long as you apply yourself it would work out. Darnell was my best friend, a great father, and my soulmate. I’ll never meet another person like Darnell and I just want to say I am proud to have him as the father of my kids. He gave me 18 years of great memories I will never forget. He taught me some of the best life lessons I never knew. He molded me into who I am today. We are going to miss him until we meet again, I love you.
