Darrell N. Murphy, 85, received the promise of eternal life and passed away in his home on Monday, November 30, 2020. He was born and raised in Racine, son of the late Norbert and Myrtle (Houdek-Née: Kaestner) Murphy.
Darrell was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Marylyn Kottal on December 26, 1959 and celebrated over 60 years with Christin loving hearts.
Darrell proudly and faithfully served in the United States Navy with the SeaBees for 8 years. He worked and retired from SC Johnson Wax for over 25 years. He enjoyed retirement, painting, and fishing. He won the Salmon A-Rama in 2006 Big One Contest. He enjoyed gardening and his peach and apple trees.
Darrell was a considered as a great father and grandfather. He was a superhero. He was always there for them and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer. He managed his 4 years of illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time being with his loved ones who he loved more than anything.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Marylyn, his children, Michael (Karen) Murphy, Shawn Murphy, Michele Murphy, Kristie (Mike) Usa; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Karen Nelson; sisters-in-law, Janet, Kathy, Pattie and Rosie; brother-in-law, Donnie; and other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
Darrell is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle; father, Norbert; mother-in-law, Enola; father-in-law Emil; brother-in-law, Richard Nelson; and other friends.
The family would like to extend a heart-felt “Thank You” to daughter, Kristie; grandson, Daniel; Allay Home & Hospice; and Froedtert for the loving care and treatment. The family would also like to thank everyone for their calls, thoughts, and prayers during this time of bereavement. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Froedtert Cancer Center and The Medical College of Wisconsin or to his loving wife for her future care.

Grandpa Murphy you will be missed. I am grateful for all the lessons you taught me during my summer visits and for sticking around as long as you did. I know it was not easy, but you toughed it out for Grandma and for the family. I am truly happy you got to meet my future husband. I hope to be just as strong willed as you and be blessed with a beautiful marriage like you and grandma have. I pray you that you are resting in peace. God Bless. Love and miss you tons!

I was so saddened to hear about Darrell’s passing. My deepest sympathy to his beloved family and especially to his wife Marylynn. When I first moved to Wind Point in 2003 and would take walks with my dogs, Darrell and Marylynn would always extend loving kindness to me. They helped me feel at home in my new neighborhood. I was lucky to be the recipient of Darrell’s apples and Marylynn’s Mary Kay products. Such a loving, wonderful couple. Their kindness lives on in all who knew them. Much love to all of the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers Wendy Sorenson

May God grant all of you who need comfort the peace that only he can give. Darrell spread much joy in the 85 years on earth. We all have special memories and may each and everyone recall them with fondness of a gentle man, a man that placed God first in every circumstance. A man that gave great strength with a soft heart that understood.
Rest in peace my dear brother. My love for you will never cease. Our God knows our hearts and I am thankful that you were part of mine.

Darrell was first and foremost a man of God, second, he loved his family more than life and third he was a great friend. Darrell was a best friend to my husband Pat. He loved him like a brother and they had such a great time together, They both loved to fish and talk about gardening, history, etc. Pat and I travelled with Darrell and Maryln to Colorado, Canada, Montana, North and South Dakota and our last trip was to Branson Missouri. Darrell and Pat were great travelers and knew so much about history, we just had a blast together.
I thanked him so many times for being the best caretaker ever to my dear sis! Always light hearted about the new job God gave him, and did it with a smile, God bless you dear brother of mine, I will I miss, until I see you again. My Joy is knowing you are with the Lord!
My deepest condolences to his precious family and especially to my nephews and nieces.
A special thank you to Kristie and Dan who have been there without pause.
Love and God Bless! Aunty
