
~~ Delmar W. Brandt, 91, passed away peacefully at the Ridgewood Care Center,
surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Brandt was born in Bloomington, IL on March 24, 1925, the son of the late Fred and Lettie (nee: Brian) Brandt.
On July 26, 1947, at St. Edward Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy Zinnen. Mr. Brandt served his country, during WWII,
with the U.S. Navy. He had been employed by the U.S. Post Office for over 33 years, Kroger’s for 20 years and Manpower Industries for 10 years. After retiring, he then worked at Buckets Pub for over 20 years.
Mr. Brandt was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church, a Lifemember of the V.F.W. Post #1371, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees #346, Navy Club U.S.A. Ship 60 and the Thursday Uptown bowling League. He enjoyed spending time in the backyard watching and feeding the squirrels and birds. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan but an even bigger fan when his grandchildren were participating in many sporting events and activities. He was honored to be chosen as a passenger of the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight-Wisconsin in November 2010.
Mr. Brandt is survived by his loving and devoted wife, of 68 years, Dorothy; their children, Jane (Don) Vaughan of Waunakee, WI, Joan (Ross) Cecil of Newburgh, IN, Jacque (Michael) Corona, Charles (Connie) Brandt, Peggy (James) Petersen, and daughter-in-law, Beth Brandt, all of Racine; 15 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brandt was preceded in death by his son, Stephen R. Brandt; granddaughter, Laura Jean Petersen; great-grandson, Michael Charles Corona; and sister, Jennie Mae Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 10th, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Edward Catholic Church, 1430 Grove Ave., with Rev. Richard Molter officiating. Family and friends are invited to meet at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
