Miller's FlowersDwight Alan Cummings, age 54, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Dwight was born on April 14, 1967, in Racine, WI to the union of Chalmers (Jr) and Annie Cummings.
Dwight received his formal education from Washington Park High School and later went on to receive his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Gateway Technical College. Upon graduation Dwight worked as a security officer for Ascension All Saints for several years and later became employed by Racine Correctional Institution where he worked until the time of his passing.
Dwight accepted Christ at the age of 9 and was baptized at Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Charles Thornhill. Dwight later became a member of the St. Paul Baptist Church family.
Dwight enlisted in the United States Army in 1987 and served in Germany. During his stay in Germany, he met and married Anja Grosskreuz and to this union his children, Carl and Chrystal, were born. When Dwight was discharged from the Army, he returned to Racine and raised his children with the help of his parents.
Dwight enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to traveling more with family. Dwight was also an avid basketball player and loved the sport. Back in the day, Dwight enjoyed spending countless hours with his best friends that included Michael Farr, Brian Bruce and Rodney McWhorter. They called themselves the L.A. Boys. To this very day we still are not sure what was so “L.A.” about them, but nevertheless…. There are so many cherished memories of them riding their bikes from one end of Racine to the other. We don’t know how our parents put up with them, but they spent many, many hours in the Cummings Family basement where they played Intellevision, which was the newest video game craze at that time.
Dwight was known for having a quiet spirit and being the most laid back of the bunch; however, he was also guilty of making his snide and slick comments and undercover jokes. Dwight loved his music, and we have the family joke that we don’t care if we ever hear the song “More Bounce To the Ounce” by Roger Troutman ever again. Every morning before school Dwight would take his “boombox” into the bathroom to get ready, and we had to hear that song blasting over and over until he was done.
Dwight was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chalmers and Chappel Cummings Sr, Illa and Mondo Flake; his aunts, Rosene Morris and Lurlene Flint.
Dwight leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Chalmers (Jr) and Annie Cummings; children, Carl and Chrystal Cummings; sister, Cheryl Nunn,\; brother, David (Erica) Cummings; nephews, Geoffrey, Jordan and Greyson Cummings; niece, Kayla Price; special first cousins, Kenny and Carl Miller, Renee Robinson, Dana Reed, Ikesha Cummings, Tiffany Lee-Christian, Tamika Lee-Hamlin, Daphne Hamby and Veronica Morris; and best friends for many years, Michael (Shelly) Farr. Dwight also leaves many other loving relatives and friends.
