MOUNT PLEASANT – Edith A. Gabbey, 84, passed away at her residence on Monday, January 2, 2017 surrounded by her family.
She was born in Racine on January 26, 1932, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Concetta (nee: Alfano) Fumo. She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1950.
Edith met the love of her life, Victor Gabbey, while both working at Webster Electric. They married at St. Lucy Catholic Church on June 26, 1957. She devoted most of her life to being a mother and homemaker. After her children were older she worked at the YWCA in the cafe where she treated everyone like a lifelong friend. She was a lifelong member of St. Lucy Catholic Church and enjoyed her quiet moments reading. Edith showed her love to friends and family with her amazing cooking; no one ever went away hungry. Above all else, however, she was happiest when in the company of her family; especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband, Victor, she is survived by her children, Suzanne Gabbey, Lawrence (Vicki) Gabbey both of Racine and Michael (Tricia Hanson) Gabbey of Wind Lake; her dear grandchildren, Stephanie Gabbey, Adam Gabbey, Benjamin Gabbey and Elizabeth Gabbey; her sisters, Mary Fumo and Rose Fumo of Mount Pleasant; her niece and nephew, Cindy Smith and Charlie Presta of Racine; and her great niece, Nicole Word. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carmella Presta.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday, January 8, 2017 for a visitation from 2-4 p.m. A service remembering and celebrating her life will follow at 4:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to a charity of one’s choice.
Edith’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Aurora at Home Hospice and Dr. Sana Jeffreys for the compassionate attention she received while under their care.

Dear Gabbey family, please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your dear loved one. What brings me comfort is the scripture found at Revelation 21:4 where God promises to do away with all sickness and death. May Jehovah the God of all comfort your family during this time of distress.
