Miller's FlowersElizabeth (Betty) M. Canfield, 87, passed away peacefully, at Ascension-All Saints on Thursday, March 25, 2021. She was born in Kenosha on August 16, 1933, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (nee: Kuchera) Wallo.
Betty graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School and St. Agnes School of Nursing, in Fond du Lac. On October 2, 1954, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Kenosha, she was united in marriage to Roger L. Canfield, who preceded her in death on December 23, 2016.
Betty had a deep passion for nursing and began her career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine as a Labor and Delivery nurse. Later, she became the Director of Nursing at the Racine Medical Clinic/All Saints Medical Center. She had a strong Catholic faith and a deep care for all the patients for whom she cared. Betty was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, where she prayed the rosary daily. Betty and Roger were very proud of each and every member of their family. They were amazing parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and cherished every moment they spent with their family.
Surviving are her children, Timothy R. (Marlene Simonsen) Canfield, Carolyn (Michael) Seitz, Marybeth Canfield, Jayne (Thomas) Buban, and Thomas (fiancée, Denise Leeper) Canfield; grandchildren, Amy (Steve) Hart, Adam (Maria) Seitz, Alissa (Keegan) Murphy, Ashley (Abe) Searl, Andrea (Adam) Tillotson, Jennifer Peralta, Ryan (Morgan Phillips) Martin, Laura (Luke) Benish, Aaron (fiancée Maisey Mulvey) Buban, Alex (Tina) Buban, Matthew Buban, Mitchell Buban, Roger (Nataleigh Call) T. Canfield, Nicole Canfield, and Michele Canfield; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mason, and Braeden Hart, Taylor and Carson Seitz, Kellen, Taytum, Ronan, and Rilynn Murphy, Cohen, Quinn, Kinley, and Collin Searl, Eloise Tillotson, Charlie Peralta, Leila and Camden Benish; sisters, Ruth Ann (Ray) Shefchik, and Kathleen (Robert) Williams; brother, Gerald (Peggy) Wallo; sisters-in-law, Barbara Girton, and Judy Canfield. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, too numerous to mention, also survive her. In addition to her parents, and beloved Roger, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville H. and Clara Canfield, brothers-in-law, Orville and Richard Canfield, and sister-in-law, Pat Canfield.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Ascension ICU nurses: Denise, Alex, Laura and Stephanie and especially our angel, Elizabeth (Liz) who was instrumental in fulfilling our Mother’s final wish.

What a GREAT lady, mentor, helper, and friend she was/is! Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Kathy lost her 85 year-old mother in November and I lost my 93 year-old father in October, so we feel your sense of loss. Wish we could be at the visitation/funeral, but we are out of town visiting kids & grandkids and then my 91 year-old mother. What a wonderful family you have. God bless you all.

During my years as a St. Cat’s student, I had lots of babysitting jobs. The standout favorite was caring for the very delightful Tim and Carrie Canfield. Hearty applause goes to Roger and Betty who created a home filled with love, respect and joy. It was palpable and strongly reflected in the children ( two of you at that time). I keep Betty and all those she loved snug in my heart and wish you God’s peace always!
My husband, Dick, is honored to be cantoring Betty’s funeral Mass on Wednesday morning.

I worked with Betty in the Racine Medical Clinic days and when I was pregnant with my daughter I was working and somewhat in labor. She was in OB right around the corner and kept running over to check on me. I have fond memories of Betty & Roger from those days. Carrie babysat my daughter and I still to this day work with Beth at Aurora. Wonderful family, my heart goes out to all of you. She was a wonderful person and surely will be missed.

Betty was an outstanding example of all the exceptional attributes nurses bring to their profession. She became a dear friend and a respected colleague at the Racine Medical Clinic where we had adjoining offices for a number of years. That friendship remained after we both retired. She will be sorely missed. Hal Goebel
