Racine –Emilie “Millie” (nee: Pukish) Dyhan, age 88, passed away peacefully at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington, Kentucky on Monday, October 8, 2012.
Emilie was born in the Ukraine on July 22, 1924 to the late Michal and Jawdonha (nee: Shutiak) Pukish. During WWII, she moved to Germany to work on a farm at age 16. On April 1, 1947 in Germany she was united in marriage with Mychajlo “Mike” Dyhan. They immigrated to the United States in 1951.
Millie was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Racine and St. Michael Ukrainian Church in Milwaukee. Among her interests, she enjoyed gardening, reading, growing roses, cross-stitching and cooking. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.
Surviving are her son, Peter (Diane) Dyhan of Lexington, KY; son-in-law, William P. VanDerZee of Boynton Beach, FL; grandsons, William VanDerZee of Waterford and Michael VanDerZee of Boynton Beach, FL; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Dyhan on December 31, 2002; adored daughter, Anna Marie VanDerZee on October 2, 2003; three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 1-2 pm. In memory of Millie, memorials to St. Lucy Catholic Church have been suggested.
