
Racine- Fedor Kowalczuk, 87, passed away peacefully at Becker-Shoop Center on Sunday, October 16, 2011.
Fedor was born in White Russia, what is now known as Belarus on November 20th, 1923. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Antonio and Maria. At age 9, while staying with his uncle on his farm,he was taken captive by the communists and sent to a Siberian work camp where his favorite Uncle was murdered.
On Dec 4th, 1941, while serving in the Russian marines, his boat, the Stalin hit a water mine. He spent the next 4 ½ years as a P.O.W. After the war, he lived and worked in Germany for American Intelligence and later as an auto mechanic. He was fluent in 5 languages. In 1951, he moved to Milwaukee, WI where he met and married Dorothy Klett. Two children were born to that marriage. In 1969, he was married for the 2ndtime, to Germaine Krueger, who preceded him in death in 2009.
1976 was a great year for Fedor, when he became a US citizen. His joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and he especially loved seeing his 3 great grandsons, Jackson, Max and Alex Contreras.He is further survived by his daughter, Kathy Kowalczuk, son, Jeff (Nancy) Kowalczuk and grandchildren Rachael (Nick) Contreras, Nicholas, Michael and Rebecca Kowalczuk.
A Memorial Service will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 6:30 pm. Private interment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Milwaukee. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 -6:30 pm.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and aids at Becker-Shoop Center, especially Delissa and Rachel. We will never forget your loving care.
