Racine – Gela Dorothy Milburn, affectionately known as Mama G.G., 94, entered into eternal life on Sunday, November 6, 2011. She was born in Ballard County, Kentucky, on September 26, 1917, daughter of the late Jess Griffin and Hattie (nee: Stewart) Griffin. She was united in marriage to the late R.L. Milburn.
Gela was a nurse’s aide for High Ridge before she retired to enjoy her family and her golden years. She enjoyed travelling and some of her favorite trips include Canada and Atlantic City. Gela loved books and was an avid reader. She was an active member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse’s Guild. Above all, she loved children and her entire family. Mama G.G. will be dearly missed by everyone who loved her and knew her.
Gela is survived by her grandchildren, Glenn Henderson of Racine, Donnie McCauley of Paducah, KY, Anton Henderson of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Phaheem Henderson of Racine, Erica Brown of Paducah, KY; sister-in-law, Hattie Griffin of Louisville, KY; and other relatives too numerous to mention. In addition to her parents and husband, Gela is preceded in death by her son, Wayne Henderson; brothers, Leonard Griffin, Artis Griffin, Althard Griffin; sisters, Inez Durrell and Theautris Hickman.
A Homegoing Celebration for Gela is being held on Thursday, November 10, 2011, 11am, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 Center Street, with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the church from 10am until the time of the service. See Thursday’s edition of the paper or the funeral home website for the full obituary.
The family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, Christine Golden, and Jeanette from Graceful Aging for their love and care of our Mama G.G. during her time of illness.
