
Mt. Pleasant – George V. Nissen, 89, passed away at home surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday July 3, 2016. He was born in Milwaukee on January 6, 1927, the son of the late George and Anna (nee: Borger) Nissen. George was a January 1945 graduate of Washington Park High School, and on March 10th, 1945 he entered the US Army. George served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of operations as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne. On June 29,1957 he was United in holy matrimony to Jo Ann M. Eckhardt in Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
George was employed at S.C. Johnson & Son for 41 years, retiring in 1989. He will be remembered by his wife and children as being a good provider for the family, and one who was willing to do whatever was necessary to help others. George had a dry sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He enjoyed laughing almost as much as his audience. He also enjoyed working in the yard, maintaining his home, and camping, but it was the time spent with his family that he treasured the most George was a faithful member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Nissen of Mount Pleasant; his children: Tim (Faye) Cagle of Tempe, Arizona, Lance (Karen) Nissen of Mt. Pleasant, Heidi Brooks, and Heather (Michael) Ortiz both of Racine; grandchildren: Joshua Cagle, Shawn Nissen, Corrie Stehlik, Lindsay, Andrew, and Kristin Brooks, Amber and Jade Ortiz; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law: Diane Petras and Jo Nissen; brother-in-law, Ronald Eckhardt; special niece, Cindy Vogt & family; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Allen Brooks; sisters: Mary Hamacher, Mildred Cagle, Geraldine (and Edward) Ebe, and Shirley Clarey; brother, Wallace Nissen; and brother-in-law, Edward Petras.
A memorial service celebrating George's life will be held in Holy Communion Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at 6 p.m. with Pastors Mark Doidge and Laura Fladten officiating. All are invited to visit with the family in the church beginning at 4:30 p.m. Donations in George's memory to Holy Communion Lutheran Church, or to Parkinson’s research have been suggested.
