Miller's FlowersMt. Pleasant – Gerald Roy Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was born in Racine on February 24, 1938, son of the late Gerald and Evelyn (nee: Luedtke) Johnson. Gerald graduated from Park High School in 1956, and then went on to work at the US Post Office for 40 years. He was married to Lois R. Blade, on February 20, 1965 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Racine, WI. She preceded him in death in 2014.
Gerald appreciated the simple pleasures of life – watching his grandchildren play, enjoying a prime rib dinner at the Driftwood Restaurant, and a good cigar. Gerald also enjoyed casino excursions, fishing for walleye and sauger on the Mississippi River; spirited political discussions and sharing good times with friends watching sports on TV.
Gerald is survived by his children, Jerry (Christine) Johnson of Slidell, Louisiana, Steve (Susanne) Johnson of Racine, and Deb (Rob) Jankowski of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Christopher (Raechel) Johnson, Colin Johnson, Keely Johnson, Alec Jankowski, Aimee Jankowski, Alyse Jankowski, and Aaron Jankowski; his brother Tom Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He will be especially missed by his four-legged fury child, Rodgers. Gerald was also preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Johnson; and sister-in-law Judy Johnson.
Funeral services will be held in the Mt. Pleasant Lutheran church at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2018 with Rev Krista Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 am until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
The family would like to extend to extend a heart-felt thank you to Dr. S. Hassan and his staff, from All Saints-Ascension Oncology Department, for the care and support given to Jerry and the family during his illness. Additionally, the family is eternally grateful for the warm, compassionate care provided by All Saints at Home Care-Hospice throughout this difficult time. The family also appreciates all of the nurses’ ability to enjoy and tolerate Jerry’s sarcastic one liners!
