Grace M. Donaldson, 90, passed away in Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints on Saturday, March 26, 2011. She was born in Milwaukee on July 4, 1920 the daughter of the late George and Florence Sullivan.
Mrs. Donaldson served her country with the U.S. Coast Guard from January 8, 1944 until December 20, 1945. On April 26, 1953, in Milwaukee, she was united in marriage to Gerald O. Donaldson. She had been employed by Catholic Family-Milwaukee, the Hamilton Beach Co. and retired from the U.S. Post Office.
Mrs. Donaldson was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and the 5th St. Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed swimming, and listening to music.
Surviving are her husband of nearly 58 years, Gerald; their children, Tom Donaldson, of Iron River, MI, Dale (Mary) Donaldson, of Brown Deer, Nancy Wedge, and Marilyn Jaklich, both of Racine; 10 grandchildren, Tommy, Lindsey, Toni, Patrick, and Jacob Donaldson, Tabatha Winter, Brandon and Zachary Wedge, Amanda and Joseph Jaklich, and Jacob; 3 great grandchildren, Braydon, Matthew, and Alex; and sister, Rosemary (Frank) Matusniec, of Milwaukee. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, further survive her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Patrick Donaldson on March 20, 1979, and 2 sisters, Mary Elizabeth Corlett and Patricia Anson.
The celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Edward Catholic Church, 15th and Grove Ave., on Thursday, March 31st at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Allen Bratkowski officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 30th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and in the church on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. The family has suggested memorials be made to your favorite charity.
